Here’s What We Know.
Medical experts say most cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) are mild to moderate, similar to the common cold. In the elderly and those who have chronic health conditions, it is more severe.
A majority of first recorded cases had contact with seafood and live animal markets, implying an animal cause of the outbreak.
New cases, especially in the US, are most likely spread person to person by coughing and sneezing. Health authorities carefully continue to watch how this virus circulates.

1) How Does the COVID-19 Spread?
The virus is mostly spread person to person through an infected person coughing and sneezing. Someone can transfer the virus even before showing symptoms. It is also possible for the infection to spread by contaminated surfaces or objects.
COVID-19 affects your respiratory system. Signs of the virus include:
- High Fever
- Coughing
- Trouble breathing, and shortness of breath
CDC believes that symptoms can develop anywhere from 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching any part of your face with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Keep a distance 6 feet or more.
- Cover your cough and sneezes with a tissue and discard it in a closed container.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects.
4) What do I do if I get sick?
- Stay home.
- If you are at high risk, talk to your local healthcare provider.
- If you have a fever or other symptoms listed above, stay home and isolate yourself from others for at least 24 hours or until your body temperature is back to normal. (without the use of fever-reducing medicines, such as acetaminophen).
- Clean and disinfect items and surfaces with soap and water, EPA-approved household products, or a bleach and water solution. The CDC recommends mixing 5 tablespoons (1/3 cup) of bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons of bleach per quart of water.
5) What is happening locally in New York State?
Things To Know:
- 10-point NYS on PAUSE plan is in effect through April 15th
- Governor Cuomo directed the nonessential workforce, to work from home through April 15th.
- Schools are closed through April 15th.
- Hospitals that reach or exceed capacity can transfer patients to other hospitals.
- Testing is free for all eligible New Yorkers as ordered by a health care provider.
